A Cotswolds wedding with a Tudor twist

Robyn and Arthur chose the magnificent Merriscourt House, nestled in the picturesque Cotswolds countryside, as the venue for their wedding. The converted barns, with their subtle hints of Greek and Tudor décor, added a touch of elegance and charm to the celebration for this stunning couple. From the bride’s preparation photos in the converted barn to the groomsmen kicking off the day with a quick game of cricket on the lawn, the festivities started early and didn’t slow down. A wedding photographer’s life is never dull, that’s for sure.

Robyn and Arthur were particularly keen on a documentary-style approach to their wedding photography, wanting me to capture their guests candidly throughout the day. The wedding party soon became comfortable with me wandering around the venue, chatting with everyone, and I quickly felt like just another guest. After our face-to-face consultation, we mapped out an itinerary for the day, including timings for each key moment and any specific details I might need to know. Preparation and coordination are key to ensuring nothing is missed.

The ceremony room itself was breathtaking, with its high vaulted ceiling, bathed in beautiful natural light. The spacious setting allowed me to discreetly position myself in just the right spot to capture the perfect shot. We also had a number of formal group photos to take, and thankfully Merriscourt’s large courtyard provided a lovely space for guests to mingle, enjoy a drink, and stay close by for the pictures. We even had some fun with the groomsmen, who tossed the groom in the air for a few playful shots.

The surrounding Oxfordshire countryside, coupled with the beautifully restored farmhouse, provided an abundance of stunning locations for the couple’s portraits. Inside, the grand banqueting hall gave the day a medieval banquet feel, with long tables and tapestries adorning the walls. As the evening progressed, the ceremony hall was transformed into a lively dance floor, where a live band played late into the night, ensuring that the celebration continued well into the early hours.

It was a truly magical day, full of joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments that I was privileged to capture.
