Liz & Tony’s Outdoor Wedding at Elms Meadow Farm

I definitely felt the pressure on Liz and Tony’s wedding day.

Not because of my experience or knowledge, but because Tony is Major Tony Williams, Commanding Officer of Regional Bands for the Royal Corps of Army Music.

So, no pressure then.

Happily, Liz and Tony couldn’t have been more relaxed or excited about their outdoor wedding at Elms Meadow Farm in Northamptonshire. What a lovely location.

They had already held their legal ceremony earlier in the week, so this was a celebration of their marriage in front of their friends and family — a public declaration of their commitment to each other and a chance to bring their extended blended families together.

The timing couldn’t have been better. At this time of year, the wildflowers are in full bloom and the surrounding fields of barley and corn are at their golden best, creating a beautiful natural backdrop for the ceremony and the photographs afterwards.

The reception was held in a huge, rustic Scandinavian tipi, complete with wooden benches and an open fire. It was exactly the kind of setting that suited the relaxed, informal feel of the day.

As the afternoon moved into evening, the light became even more beautiful. This time of year is perfect for heading out into the fields for those warm, golden-hour photographs.

And with an adventurous couple like Liz and Tony, they didn’t need asking twice.

We headed off into the fields as the sun began to drop, making the most of the landscape and that beautiful evening light.

It’s one of the things I love about documentary wedding photography. The best photographs don’t always happen when everyone is standing where they’re supposed to be. Sometimes you just need a couple who are willing to go for a walk, explore a little and enjoy being together.

Liz and Tony certainly were.
