Anna and Kieran tied the knot at the stunning Bourton Hall near Rugby. Set in beautiful parkland overlooking the Leam Valley, Bourton Hall is quite a venue. With its grand reception rooms, historic features, manicured grounds and on-site accommodation, there’s plenty to admire. But what makes it particularly special, in my experience, is its former Catholic chapel.
Many wedding venues have beautiful reception rooms, but to have a chapel of its own, right within the hall, is something rather unique. It provided a beautiful setting for Anna and Kieran’s wedding ceremony and made the whole day feel very connected to the history of the building.
The ceremony was made even more poignant by the imminent arrival of the couple’s first child. Double congratulations, guys!
The chapel opens directly onto the main entrance of Bourton Hall, which meant we could go straight into the confetti. From there, it was a short sprint for me to get upstairs and position myself at a window ready for the confetti shower over the whole wedding party.
Leaning out of windows becomes something of an occupational hazard in this game. But it was well worth it for the photograph.
If couples ask for group photographs, I generally try to keep the list to around eight combinations. It can take a surprisingly long time to round up the relevant people, particularly when they’ve disappeared to the bar, found a quiet corner to chat or, inevitably, headed to the toilets.
Thankfully, everyone was very accommodating at Anna and Kieran’s wedding. The sooner we get the formal group photographs out of the way, the sooner everyone is free to get back to enjoying themselves.
With that done, Anna, Kieran and I sneaked away for a quiet walk around Bourton Hall’s extensive grounds for their couple photographs. It was a chance for the three of us to take a breath, escape the hustle and bustle for a few minutes and let Anna and Kieran take in the fact that they were actually married.
The grounds at Bourton Hall provide plenty of opportunities for natural wedding photographs, with parkland, mature trees and sweeping views across the Leam Valley. It was the perfect setting for some relaxed photographs of the two of them before we headed back inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches.
By the time the evening reception was in full swing, the cake had been cut and the first dance was underway. Then the casino opened and, well, all bets were off!
Bourton Hall really is a wonderful setting for a wedding, and Anna and Kieran were a brilliant couple to photograph. From the beautiful chapel ceremony and confetti through to the quiet moments in the grounds and the lively evening reception, it was a proper wedding day — full of laughter, family, celebration and a little bit of casino chaos.
