A fun and frolicking wedding in the fields of Bromsgrove

I knew from the moment I met Shannon and Oliver over Zoom for their consultation that their wedding was going to be something truly special. They are such a laid-back couple with a brilliant sense of fun and a deep love for each other. They were eager for me to focus on capturing candid moments, documenting the day as it unfolded naturally around them. So, I was absolutely delighted to arrive at the stunning Manor Hill House in Bromsgrove — a beautifully designed venue exclusively built to host weddings. Nestled in the heart of the Midlands countryside, with working stables, single-track roads, and scenic country walks, the venue was perfectly decorated for their Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. It was a bright day with just a touch of overcast — absolutely ideal for photography.

Shannon had asked me to join the bridal party for some bridal prep photos, and then, it was straight off to find Oliver and his groomsmen for a few fun shots. The ceremony itself was a real rollercoaster of emotions, with tears and belly laughs shared by all. It was clear to see the depth of love between Shannon and Oliver, and how much everyone cherished the significance of the occasion.

As I was working solo on this wedding, I had to be quick on my feet, being discreet so to ensure not to distract the couple, guests, or registrars. After the ceremony, it was time for the drinks reception — a lovely moment for the couple to mingle with their guests and enjoy a refreshing drink before I organised the confetti shot.

Next, we had a small number of formal group photos at the couple’s request, before I whisked Shannon and Oliver away for some portraits. It’s really important to me that the couple never feels like they’re missing out on the celebration, so I always make sure to check in with them, keeping an eye on the day’s schedule — not just for photography, but for the overall flow of events. Many people find being in front of the camera a little uncomfortable, but it’s my job to help them relax and ‘just be’ with each other. In this case, though, no such assistance was needed! With all the love, joy, and personality they radiated, we had an absolute blast together.

The rest of the day was filled with candid moments, speeches, and of course, the inevitable evening party — one of my favourite parts of the day. The guests were on the dance floor well before the first dance, which in hindsight, I should have predicted!

There’s no doubt that Shannon and Oliver had a truly special day, and it was a genuinely sad moment when I had to leave. I’d made friends with many of the guests and other suppliers, and it was clear how much love and warmth surrounded the couple. Congratulations, guys — wishing you both all the very best for the future!
