Lareina and Vincent’s wedding at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone in Milton Keynes was the first time I’d visited Milton Keynes’ very own cathedral. It’s a beautiful, spacious building with plenty of natural light, and the colourful décor, inspired by Lareina’s Sri Lankan heritage, looked wonderful. I was particularly looking forward to seeing the celebrations continue at the Sri Lankan wedding breakfast later in the day.
I understand that Lareina works as a civil servant in London, and you could tell she was well organised. Nothing was left to chance. We actually visited the locations on two occasions well ahead of the wedding day to make sure the couple were happy with the plans. I really don’t mind doing this at all. After all, I’m there to make sure my couples are happy and comfortable with everything before the big day.
Milton Keynes is well known for its roundabouts, concrete and glass, but what is perhaps less appreciated is just how much green space there is, even around the city centre. So, on the day, we knew we had a good plan. We would make a short drive to a nearby park, with lakes and wildflowers along the way, before heading to Woughton House Hotel, tucked away in the old village of Woughton-on-the-Green.
Woughton-on-the-Green is one of the many original villages that were eventually surrounded by the development of Milton Keynes. These little pockets of history are well worth exploring, particularly if you’re looking for some of the city’s older pubs, buildings and quieter corners.
Despite the day starting sunny and bright, the weather soon took a turn and unfortunately cut our couple’s shoot and family group photographs short. Not a problem. We simply found some time later in the day to finish them off. There’s always a solution.
I knew these photographs were particularly important to Lareina and Vincent, with friends and family travelling from around the world to be there. It was therefore well worth taking the time to make sure we captured those photographs, even if it meant reprioritising things slightly during the day.
That’s one of the things I love about photographing weddings. The day rarely goes exactly to plan, but there’s nearly always a way to make things work without letting it interrupt the celebrations.
Lareina and Vincent couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating, and I was delighted to be their wedding photographer in Milton Keynes. Ultimately, a happy couple is all I want — and these two certainly were.
